One million Mississippians have gotten at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine

Mississippi has hit another milestone in its rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine as over one million residents have now received at least their first dose.

State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs announced the milestone Thursday as 1,000,669 Mississippians have gotten at least one shot. To date, 872,000+ residents are fully vaccinated.

Dr. Dobbs did also warn that, while cases in older Mississippians are falling, more younger Mississippians are now contracting the virus due to a lower vaccination rates.

This morning, the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 105 new cases of COVID-19. 

The latest report—the lowest report of the week—brings the state’s total up to 316,272. With the confirmation of 1 additional death, 7,279 Mississippians have passed away from the virus. 

Overall hospitalizations saw a decline in the latest available data from the MSDH. 

As of Monday, an estimated 305,388 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19.
