Three of the state’s most-utilized orthopedic practices have announced they are unifying under one brand.
Jackson-based Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center (MSMOC) announced in a Tuesday press release that Oxford Ortho & Sports Medicine and the Orthopaedic Institute of North Mississippi in Tupelo are joining its brand beginning Aug. 4.
The three orthopedic providers will unite under one name: Mississippi Sports Medicine. According to the release, the merger will create the largest and most comprehensive network of orthopedic specialists in the state and one of the strongest in the Southeast.
“For four decades, we’ve stayed focused on one thing: serving Mississippians with the highest quality orthopedic and sports medicine care,” said Dr. J.R. Woodall, a spine surgeon and partner at MSMOC. “This new chapter allows us to extend that focus across even more communities, with like-minded physicians who share our commitment to excellence, local pride, and putting patients first.”
Together, the combined team aims to deliver statewide access to fellowship-trained subspecialists across nearly every orthopedic discipline, while preserving the community ties already created by each practice.
“This is personal for me,” said Dr. Bryan Fagan, an orthopedic surgeon at Orthopaedic Institute of North Mississippi who completed his sports medicine fellowship training at MSMOC.
“I was trained in Jackson and am proud to bring the same standard of care to families in north Mississippi,” he continued. “This partnership is about deepening that connection and continuing to grow orthopedic excellence right here at home.”
Doctors from Oxford Ortho & Sports Medicine echoed Fagan’s sentiments, emphasizing that while the name may be changing, the commitment to the local community continues.
“We’re proud of what we’ve built here in Oxford – a practice rooted in clinical evidence and deep ties to our community,” Dr. Daniel Boyd said. “Joining under the Mississippi Sports Medicine name allows us to preserve that legacy while connecting with like-minded colleagues across the state who share our focus on doing what’s best for Mississippians.”
What does the merger means for patients?
According to the release, not much changes for patients. They will continue seeing the same physicians at the same locations. The only difference is their doctors may be working with team members in other offices to provide the best services.
“Those physicians now benefit from deeper collaboration with a statewide team of subspecialty colleagues, helping ensure every patient receives care aligned with the most advances standards in orthopedics,” the release stated.
The expanded network also guarantees patients can visit locations in other cities with ease, if needed.
When does the merger happen?
Residents will see the Mississippi Sports Medicine name on signage, materials, and communications in Oxford, Tupelo, and across north Mississippi leading up to the official brand launch on Aug. 4.
