An Oxford man is in custody for allegedly robbing and shooting an individual at a local apartment complex.

Oxford Police report that officers responded to the parking lot of building 21 at the Links Apartments for a report of a male with a gunshot wound on Monday. Sources in the college town tell SuperTalk Mississippi News that a large influx of law enforcement vehicles were spotted rushing along Highway 6 to get to the scene of the shooting.

Upon arrival, officers began administering life-saving measures to the victim while others began searching for a suspect. Shortly after, police say that 20-year-old Lakerrian Kadriaun Ruffin was taken into custody. A search warrant was executed on his residence where a large quantity of narcotics was located.

The unidentified victim was transported to the Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi and eventually transferred to Regional One Medical in Memphis, Tenn., and is currently listed in stable but critical condition.

Ruffin is charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault. He was given a bond of $250,000 by the municipal court judge, but a hold was placed on him by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

An ongoing investigation into the incident is underway. Anyone with information is urged to call OPD at (662)232-2400 or Crime Stoppers at (662)234-8799.
