The 2026-2027 oyster season will soon open in Mississippi, beginning at sunrise on Oct. 1.
According to the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, daily harvest limits will be set at 15 sacks per resident commercial tonging vessel and 20 sacks per commercial oyster dredging vessel per day. All recreational harvest is limited to three sacks per licensed resident individual per seven day period, officials added.
The approved and conditionally approved areas are:
- Area I B: includes St. Joe reefs
- Area II B: includes Waveland and St. Stanislaus reefs
- Area II E: includes Henderson Point reefs
- Area V A: includes Biloxi Bay Reef
For nonresident commercial tonging limits, licensed nonresident vessels are held to the tonging sack limit of their home state or the Mississippi resident tonging limit of 15 sacks, whichever is lower.
MDMR will have check stations located at 5200 Shipyard Road, Bayou Caddy; 104 South Market Street, Pass Christian; and 310 Harbor Road, Ocean Springs. More information on Mississippi’s oyster season can be found here.
