Charges could be upped against two people accused of burning a man’s body after killing him in an attempt to cover up a murder.
A collaborative effort between the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the McComb Police Department, and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrests of Ryan Tobias and Timothy Hathorn. The two are accused of setting Reginald Bridges, 29, ablaze to avoid being held criminally liable for his death.
The investigation into the incident began Aug. 5 when officers responded to a report of a burned body dumped on the side of Stephens Cemetery Road in Lawrence County. Local law enforcement reported that the body was tied up in a gravel pit and “burned beyond recognition.” Hathorn was arrested first in connection with the victim’s death, and Tobias was later apprehended by authorities.
Each subject has been issued a bond of $1 million. Further charges against the two are pending.
