The Jackson State football team has now won an FCS-leading 11 games extending back to a season ago, opening the 2025 campaign on Saturday with a 28-14 win over Hampton.
Running back Ahmad Miller led the Tigers (1-0) with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to break a 14-14 tie – the first being from two yards out and the second being a 76-yard breakaway score. He finished with 172 yards on 10 carries, while fellow running backs Emari Matthews and Donerio Davenport also found the end zone.
Hampton (0-1) took an early lead with a three-yard touchdown by running back Ja’Quan Snipes. However, it would be the Pirates’ only lead of the day. The team’s other score came on a 30-yard connection between quarterback Isaiah Freeman and MarShawn Ferguson, Jr. in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Jacobian Morgan went 15 of 30 passing for 143 yards for Jackson State. Quincy Ivory led the Tiger defense with eight tackles, 3.5 of which were for loss, and two sacks. He also forced a fumble in the second quarter.
Jackson State returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 6, in a road matchup against Southern Miss. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
