From Mississippi to the top of the majors, a pair of players with strong Magnolia State ties are heading to the 2025 MLB All-Star Game.
Ocean Springs native and left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet earned his second all-star game nod after being selected last year as a member of the Chicago White Sox. Crochet, now in his first year with the Boston Red Sox, has a 9-4 record with a 2.39 ERA and 151 strikeouts.
Crochet played his prep years at Ocean Springs High School before playing three seasons at the University of Tennessee.
Athletics designated hitter Brent Rooker joins Crochet on the American League roster. The former Mississippi State Bulldog returns to the Midsummer Classic for the second time in three years after being snubbed a year ago. He’s on pace for a third consecutive 30-homer season, hitting .273 with 18 long balls and 48 RBI.

Some distant Mississippi connections who will also take the field include once-upon-a-time Mississippi State commitment James Wood (Washington Nationals OF), who never played in Starkville after deciding to go to the pros early. Former Mississippi Braves standouts Max Fried (New York Yankees LHP) and Ronald Acuña Jr. (Atlanta Braves OF) were selected, as well.
The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will be played on July 15 at 7 p.m. CT inside Atlanta’s Truist Park. In the days leading up to the game, various events will be held such as the All-Star Futures Game on July 12 and the Home Run Derby on July 14. Jackson Prep alum Konnor Griffin and Madison Central alum Braden Montgomery will participate in the futures contest that showcases the top minor league prospects.
