Two football players from Ole Miss and one from Mississippi State were recognized by the SEC for their roles in helping lead their teams to victory over the weekend.
For Lane Kiffin’s Rebels, veteran offensive lineman Jayden Williams and promising defensive tackle Kam Franklin were honored for their performances in Saturday’s 30-14 win over South Carolina. Meanwhile, talented dual-threat quarterback Kamario Taylor represented Jeff Lebby’s Bulldogs in the conference’s weekly awards for providing a spark in the maroon and white’s 38-35 win over Arkansas.
Williams is one of the SEC’s latest co-offensive linemen of the week, as Kentucky’s Jalen Farmer also earned the same recognition. The Ole Miss senior anchored an offensive line that paved the way for running back Kewan Lacy to have a career-high 167 rushing yards and a score against the Gamecocks. The Rebel front was also impactful in giving quarterback Trinidad Chambliss a clean pocket, as he was not sacked once in the matchup.

On the other side of the ball, Franklin earned the co-defensive player of the week nod, sharing the honor with Colin Simmons from Texas. Franklin, a sophomore from Lake Cormorant, wreaked havoc in the backfield and made South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers uncomfortable all night. Franklin finished the game with six tackles, one sack, and 1.5 takedowns from behind the line of scrimmage.
As a whole, Pete Golding’s defense logged six sacks and eight tackles for loss while holding the Gamecock offense to a mere 230 yards.

For Mississippi State, Taylor is the conference’s co-freshman of the week, alongside Kentucky signal-caller Cutter Boley, after scoring two touchdowns in the first SEC win of the Lebby era. Taylor, a freshman from Noxubee County, tossed for 40 yards and a score, while also logging a team-high 55 rushing yards and a touchdown.
The young field general provided Mississippi State with a much-needed spark after starter Blake Shapen was temporarily sidelined to be evaluated for an injury early in the second half. The Bulldog offense rallied behind Taylor until Shapen’s eventual return to action, where he threw a game-winning pass to Anthony Evans III. After the game, Lebby gave the celebratory game ball to Shapen, who, in turn, handed it to Taylor.
