Mississippi Congressman Trent Kelly has expressed his concerns regarding cuts in defense spending in President Biden’s proposed Fiscal Year 2022 defense budget. Kelly stated that the U.S. must not allow our adversaries to become better equipped than our troops. “Peace through strength must be our top priority,” stated Kelly.
In a recent House Budget Committee hearing, Kelly questioned Vice Admiral Donald Boxall and the Honorable Michael J. McCord about the Biden Administration’s proposed defense budget.
Kelly said, “Military readiness must be a top priority, and this budget does not begin to keep up with our overseas adversaries. Not being prepared creates a huge cost.”

Kelly, a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Budget Committee, has served over 30 years in the Mississippi Army National Guard as a Combat Engineer and is currently serving as a Major General.
