The city of Pearl’s police chief has resigned from his duties.
After six years of service with the city’s police department, Dean Scott has stepped down from his position.
The move comes just weeks after an investigation by Jackson TV station WLBT revealed that Scott had also worked a job at the Rankin County Tax Collector’s Office where he was performing duties for one gig while being compensated to execute responsibilities at another on the taxpayer’s dime.
Scott, alongside former Richland mayor Pat Sullivan, is accused of logging night shifts for Rankin County while actually being at casino resorts on the Mississippi Gulf Coast on multiple occasions — among other discrepancies. Scott’s title with the county was part-time homestead fraud investigator.
The chief resigned on Thursday following an executive meeting of the board of aldermen, where personnel matters were brought up. No further details have been given pertaining to his resignation.
Neither Scott nor Sullivan have been charged with any crimes at this time.
