Two people are behind bars in Harrison County for allegedly breaking into a home, tying up those who were inside, and assaulting one of them with a machete before robbing the place.
On Tuesday, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office announced a second arrest in the case after the first was made more than a month before. Daniel James Brown was taken into custody and locked up beside Octavia Jermaine Winters, both believed to be behind the crimes that occurred at a Gulfport home in late March.
On March 31, deputies responded to Cypress Drive Bayou after receiving a call that someone had been assaulted with a machete. Upon arriving, they found the two victims inside the home, which had been ransacked. Multiple items, including a car, had been stolen from the residence.
While the car was later found abandoned on Dedeaux Road, evidence from the scene led to the arrest of Winters on April 3. According to law enforcement, a phone was left behind at the scene, one that belonged to Winters. It was also discovered that Winters was previously placed on federal probation for unrelated crimes.
The arrest of Winters was followed by Brown being taken into custody early Tuesday morning.
Brown was charged with two counts of robbery and one count of use of a deadly weapon. Winters is facing charges of use of a deadly weapon, burglary, motor vehicle theft, and aggravated assault. Brown’s bond was set at $500,000, while Winter’s was set at $625,000.
