Police in Mississippi’s capital city are investigating attacks at multiple area hospitals.
On Tuesday, officials with the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center announced that police arrested a discharged patient after the individual attacked an employee at the hospital, along with a worker at the neighboring University of Mississippi Medical Center.

“Neither employee sustained serious injuries, and both are expected to make a full recovery,” a statement from the VA reads. “The suspect is in the custody of local law enforcement, and we cannot comment further due to the ongoing investigation.”
The suspect has not been identified at this time.
Over at nearby St. Dominic Hospital, an employee was reportedly the victim of a targeted attack in one of the facility’s parking structures. A security guard on-site was able to respond to the attack and prevent the unidentified victim from sustaining further injuries. Police took the unidentified suspect into custody.
“Earlier today, a team member was attacked in a parking structure on our campus. All evidence points to an isolated and targeted act; the suspect is in custody, and our facility is secured,” a statement from St. Dominic reads.
“A member of our security team was on-site and responded immediately to the attack, preventing further harm. We are working closely with our law enforcement partners and offer our deep appreciation to our security team and first responders who quickly helped to address and contain the situation.”
All three hospitals confirm that their facilities have been secured for visitors and staff to enter and exit safely.
