Four threats were made against daycares in Pearl last week, according to local law enforcement.
The Pearl Police Department announced Monday that it is working with the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security to “identify the source of these threats.” Investigators have not yet said whether the threats were deemed credible.
“Out of an abundance of caution, both uniformed and non-uniformed Pearl Police officers will be conducting increased patrols around local daycares to ensure the safety of the children and staff in our community,” the department said in a statement. “The safety of our kids remains our top priority, and we will continue to take every necessary step to protect them.”
Officials did not disclose which daycares were targeted. However, WLBT-TV reported on Feb. 19 that a threat was made against Explorer’s Child Development and Learning Center.
The threats in Pearl come on the heels of two threats made earlier this month against an elementary school in nearby Madison. Madison Station Elementary was evacuated and closed for three days after bomb threats were reported. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Madison Police Department are investigating that case.
