After more than 20 years of competing in the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) athletics division, Presbyterian Christian School will be taking its athletics to the Mississippi High Schools Activities Association (MHSAA).
PCS will compete for a final time in the MAIS this year before moving on to the MHSAA in the fall of 2025. The MHSAA accepted the Hattiesburg private school for membership based on notification from the athletic division’s executive director, Rickey Neaves. PCS leaders are convinced it’s the right move for the school.
“We are excited about this move to the MHSAA and looking forward to new challenges and competitions for our student-athletes,” PCS Athletic Director Drew Mattison said in a press release. “We appreciate all of the hard work from our families and administrators in making this decision, as well as the MHSAA and its leadership in making the transition as smooth as possible.”
According to data from the school, more than 75% of PCS students in grades 7-12 are members of at least one of the athletic program’s 14 competitive teams.
“We are excited to begin this new journey,” PCS headmaster Jimmy Messer said. “We believe it is a positive move for our school and athletic teams, and we look forward to building new relationships, creating new rivalries, and being a bigger part of the local community.”
Updated classifications and region alignments for the 2025-2026 school year will be released by the MHSAA in November.
