President Donald Trump will address the nation on Wednesday night in a speech White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says will be used to tout accomplishments in the Republican’s first year back in office and preview his agenda for the next year and beyond.
Trump announced via his Truth Social platform that the live address will begin at 8 p.m. CT. He will speak from inside the Diplomatic Reception Room at the White House. It will be broadcast on all major cable news networks and streamed on the White House’s official YouTube page.
“I look forward to ‘seeing’ you then. It has been a great year for our Country, and THE BEST IS YET TO COME!” Trump said in the Tuesday post announcing the speech.
While Trump himself did not specify what he would address, Leavitt told reporters that he will use the opportunity to recap the administration’s work this year and give a preview of what the next three years of his second and final term will look like.
“He’s going to talk a lot about the accomplishments over the past 11 months, all that he’s done to bring our country back to greatness, and all he continues to plan to do to continue delivering for the American people over the next three years,” Leavitt said.
Topics bound to come up include lower rates of illegal crossings of the southern border, lower inflation than its peak under the Biden administration, and reduced gas prices, all of which Leavitt has previously cited as major achievements. Trump scheduled the address as prices remain high and polls show more Americans are disapproving of the White House’s handling of the economy and trade.
