Primary election results: Gubernatorial race

Before Mississippi can elect its next Governor in November, you went to the polls today to narrow the list of choices in the primary election. The polls have now closed, and precincts are beginning to report their numbers. As the numbers come in, we will update this article with the results. 

Reminder: A candidate must get at least 50% of the vote to be declared a winner.  If no candidate reaches that threshold, the race will go to a runoff on August 27th.

95% of precincts reporting 

Republican: 

  • Robert Foster – 19%
  • Tate Reeves – 48%
  • Bill Waller Jr. – 33%

Democrat: 

  • Michael Brown – 9%
  • William Bond Compton Jr. – 2%
  • Jim Hood – 71% – WINNER 
  • Robert Ray – 2%
  • Robert Shuler Smith – 8%
  • Gregory Wash – 1%
  • Velesha Williams – 6%
  • Albert Wilson 2%

Constitution Party: 

  • Bob Hickingbottom 

Independent: 

– David Singletary
