Law enforcement authorities in Rankin County are investigating what they believe to be a targeted attack that led to a man’s death inside his home.
On Wednesday, just before 9 a.m., the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department received a call related to an unresponsive male at a house on Highway 80 between Brandon and Pelahatchie. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered 36-year-old William Earl Morris deceased with multiple gunshot wounds.
“Based upon the investigation, it appears that this was not a random crime, but that Mr. Morris was specifically targeted by a person known to him,” a statement from the sheriff’s department reads.
Investigators report that they have followed up on multiple leads and plan to continue pursuing persons of interest possibly linked to this case. No further details have been released at this time.
