Due to the rapid increase in delta variant cases and outbreaks, combined with the low overall vaccination rate in the state, MSDH is making the following recommendations through July 26, 2021.

• All Mississippians 12 years of age and older should receive COVID-19 vaccination.
• All those who are unvaccinated should wear a mask when indoors in public settings.
• All Mississippi residents 65 years of age and older should avoid all indoor mass gatherings, even if they are vaccinated.
• All Mississippi residents with chronic underlying medical conditions should avoid all indoor mass gatherings, even if they are vaccinated.

Vaccinations

More Mississippians are stepping up to be protected. More than 1,000,991 people have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Mississippi.

Vaccination is proving to be highly effective at controlling COVID-19 illness and transmission in the state. Vaccination offers excellent protection even if you have already had COVID-19.

All Mississippians aged 12 or older are now eligible for vaccination at hundreds of convenient locations statewide.

• Find a free vaccination at an MSDH vaccination site. Schedule an appointment ahead of time, or drop by and make one in person. Same-day appointments are usually available.
• Find a pharmacy or clinic near you offering vaccinations
• Free vaccinations are available this week in Amory, Ashland and Lucedale. Locations and times

COVID-19 Variants

Some COVID-19 variants are more transmissible than standard COVID-19, and can cause more severe symptoms. Vaccination is still effective at reducing the risk of illness from these variants.

1,013 cases of COVID-19 from six major variant strains, including variant strains of concern, have been reported in Mississippi as of July 13.

The delta variant of COVID-19 is now causing the majority of new cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi. Delta variant cases rose from 137 to 231 between July 6 and July 13.

Long-Term Care Facilities

• Current active outbreaks: 34

Long-term care outbreaks of COVID-19 have sharply increased. If you are a long-term care resident or staff member, you should be fully vaccinated.

An outbreak is considered any confirmed COVID-19 case among LTC facility residents or employees.
