The search continues for a man who slipped off a barge and fell into the Mississippi River earlier this week.

Donny Mitchell, 50, of Louisiana, has been identified as the missing individual.

According to officials with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, they have been conducting surface searches since Mitchell’s disappearance was first reported Tuesday. They have not been able to involve dive teams yet due to currents and water temperatures.

The accident happened at approximately 4:30 a.m. near the Port of Natchez, according to the Natchez Democrat. Mitchell was reportedly attempting to climb a ladder onto a walkway in the area of the Buzzi Unicem USA terminal when he fell into the river.

This is an ongoing story and will be updated when more details become available.
