Mississippi anglers will have a new opportunity to land Red Snapper beginning Friday.
The season will set sail at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, May 23, running through July 6 at 11:59 p.m.

According to Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) officials, private recreational anglers and state for-hire vessels will be able to land two Red Snapper per person per day, with a 16-inch minimum size limit for harvested fish.
In addition to “Tails n’ Scales” requirements, every licensed angler on a vessel must hold a permit for possession and landing of reef and Cobia. Click here for more details on requirements and permit registration.
Red Snapper season will be open seven days a week in both federal and state waters during the stretch, though it will close in federal waters if the annual catch limit for recreational fishermen is projected to be reached at any point. The season will also end on federal waters if the Gulf-wide quota is met.
Private recreational anglers will be able to fish as far as 200 nautical miles. State-for-hire permits extend across state territorial waters, which is nine nautical miles south of the barrier islands.
