As the race for Governor in Mississippi heats up, it appears that Republican Tate Reeves and Democrat Jim Hood will meet for at least one debate.

Last week, Reeves, the current Lt. Governor, announced that he accepted debate invitations on September 25th in Jackson and October 10th in Hattiesburg.

Today, Hood, Mississippi’s current Attorney General, accepted three debate proposals of his own – October 10th in Hattiesburg, October 17th in Tupelo and October 29th in Jackson.

The October 10th date is the only agreed upon date between the two campaigns. The potential debate would be hosted by WJTV and would be heard across the state on SuperTalk Mississippi.

Each campaign has issued statements regarding a potential debate.

I’m looking forward to debating Jim Hood. He’s a liberal and I’m a conservative. I want to take Mississippi forward and he wants to take us back to the time when Democrats ran everything. Jim Hood will not be able to hide his liberal agenda on the debate stage and it’s time for the voters to see the clear choice in this race.” – Lt. Governor Tate Reeves

“Since August 22 Jim Hood has called for three debates in different regions of the state as a way to reach as many voters as possible to discuss the issues important to them,” the campaign stated. “This will give different media outlets and different regions of the state a chance to participate. We hope Tate Reeves will agree to these debates across the state.” – Jim Hood’s Campaign.

The general election is set for November 5th.
