Authorities have officially identified the skeletal remains discovered under a Jasper County mobile home in December 2022.

Over a year after the remains were initially found under the residence belonging to Patrick Prater, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department confirmed on Thursday that it was Prater whose body was discovered.

Prater was reported missing by his girlfriend, Tammy Hill, on Dec. 15, 2022. JCSD investigators believe he returned days later and was badly electrocuted while underneath the Vosburg home. When police discovered the body on Dec. 26, it was in such disarray that they could neither confirm nor deny it was Prater.

In the year following, the home went empty after Hill eventually moved out. With Prater never returning, most came to the belief that he was the one authorities had found.

Prater’s remains are now being sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab, which will deliver final results detailing the cause of death.
