Representative Jill Ford, R-Madison, has filed a bill named after the late J.T. Williamson.

HB 429, titled the “J.T. Williamson Act” in memory of the former SuperTalk Mississippi radio host, would make texting while driving a misdemeanor with a $500 fine.

Whether it was on or off the radio, Williamson often talked about how the texting and driving law in Mississippi needed to be stricter. Current Mississippi Code has a civil penalty of $100.

Williamson, a staple of Mississippi talk radio, passed away on July 31, 2021, after a hard-fought battle with lymphoma.
