Forrest County has brought on a new company for trash pick-up outside of Hattiesburg and Petal and is urging residents to make sure they’re opted in.
According to a press release from Delta Waste Solutions, the new provider of residential solid-waste collection in unincorporated areas of the county, action is required for all unincorporated residents to enroll with DWS in order to receive a cart and have trash pick-up begin.
Enrollment opened this week and can be done so here. The sign-up window closes Nov. 14.
“We’re asking residents to take a few minutes to sign up, so there’s no interruption to their trash service,” Delta Waste Solutions COO and co-founder Sander Ohnstad said. “Once you complete enrollment, we’ll deliver your new trash can and provide weekly trash collection as normal.”
If residents would rather sign up by phone, they can call (601) 804-1060. Those who would rather sign up in person will have three opportunities to do so:
- Sept. 22 at 451 Monroe Road in Hattiesburg from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Oct. 8 at 225 Tatum Road in Hattiesburg from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Oct. 20 at 27 Turkey Pine Drive in Hattiesburg from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
When signing up, residents will need to provide their service address, email address, and mobile phone number. Carts will begin being delivered in January 2026, with DWS fully taking over trash collection services in unincorporated parts of Forrest County on Feb. 1.
The change is expected to impact around 11,000 households, with the Forrest County Board of Supervisors accepting a bid from DWS in June. The contract is projected to see trash fees decrease by over $10 per service address. Residents living in Hattiesburg and Petal will not be affected by the change, with both municipalities operating their own trash collection services.
