The road to Omaha has officially begun, and for the first time in four years, all three of Mississippi’s major Division I programs will be vying for a national championship in the same campaign.
For Ole Miss and Southern Miss, the Rebels and Golden Eagles were tapped as regional host sites in the field of 64, meaning both clubs will welcome a trio of foes to their respective home parks for round one of action on the diamond.

Ole Miss (40-19) had the best draw of the three Mississippi teams, earning the No. 10 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Georgia Tech, Western Kentucky, and Murray State have been selected as the No. 2-4 seeds, respectively, in the Oxford regional. The Rebels are slated to open tournament play against Murray State, a team Mike Bianco’s club defeated in an extra-innings affair earlier this season. Georgia Tech, the regular-season ACC champion, and Western Kentucky will face each other first.

Southern Miss is listed as the No. 16 overall seed, paired with No. 1 overall seed Vanderbilt’s regional. The Golden Eagles (44-14) drew a tough field consisting of Alabama, Miami, and Columbia in the Hattiesburg regional. Christian Ostrander and company will play Columbia in their opening regional contest. Alabama and Miami will face one another first.

Mississippi State’s path in the NCAA Tournament will not run through Starkville. Instead, the Bulldogs (34-21) will have to go through the Tallahassee regional, hosted by No. 9 overall seed Florida State. Justin Parker’s club, the regional’s No. 3 seed, will open postseason action with Northeastern, which boasts a Division I-best 27-game winning streak. The host Seminoles will play SWAC champion Bethune-Cookman. The Tallahassee regional is paired with No. 8 Oregon State for super regional purposes.
