A north Mississippi man has been locked up for shooting and killing the mother of a small child.

The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office on Friday night received a 911 call from an individual claiming that a juvenile came to their neighbor’s residence stating that their mother had been shot inside a local apartment unit in Robinsonville.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies heard additional shots fired inside the residence. Authorities discovered that the home was occupied by one Black female, her newborn child, and one Black male. Two minors allegedly belonging to the female occupant were outside of the building.

Officers spoke to the male suspect inside the apartment via phone and were able to get him to release his weapon and come outside of the residence. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Donald Demario Patrick, was promptly detained.

Patrick confessed to shooting the female, later identified as 34-year-old Shaterica Queshun Bell, who succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities located the infant in the apartment unharmed.

The suspect is being held at the Tunica County Detention Center on murder, felony possession of a stolen firearm, and felony carrying a concealed weapon as a convicted felon. His bond was set at $325,000.

Bell’s body will be transported to Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

This investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office at (662)363-1411 or CrimeStoppers at (662)910-0400.
