Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall in Tunica will permanently close in November, according to an announcement on the casino’s website.
Boyd Gaming, which operates Sam’s Town, said the decision to shut down came after “careful consideration of a variety of business factors,” including a decrease in gaming customers in recent years. Management described the move as difficult but thanked guests for over 30 years of support.
Sam’s Town will operate as normal until Sunday, Nov. 9, at 10 p.m. Here’s other key information and dates to know.
No replacement planned
The notice said no new casino will open on the current Sam’s Town site and the property’s gaming license will not be relocated to another location in Mississippi.
Tunica is one of the few cities in Mississippi that has casinos – joining Vicksburg, Greenville, and those along the Gulf Coast and on tribal lands – but has suffered more in recent years in terms of patronage.
