Authorities are searching for two suspects after a sheriff’s deputy was shot in Covington County.
Law enforcement officials report that the incident took place on Monday in Mount Olive while the unidentified deputy was conducting a traffic stop. Police from multiple agencies are said to have rushed to the scene after shots rang out.

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued a Blue Alert, identifying a suspect as 19-year-old Zykerian Quentavius Magee. The suspect is described as a 6-foot-3 Black male who weighs approximately 185 pounds. Magee, per the alert, was last seen on foot near the 200 block of Mount Olive. He is said to have been wearing a black hoodie and gray pants.
An alert was also sent out for 19-year-old Cortavion Dewayne Hobbs. He is described as a Black male standing 5 feet tall and weighing 140 pounds, and was last seen at the same time and location as Magee, and was wearing a camouflage jacket and black pants. A source tells SuperTalk Mississippi News that Hobbs is related to 17-year-old Cordarius Hobbs, the suspect accused of killing an elderly couple and shooting a law enforcement officer in Mendenhall last week.

A Blue Alert is a notification sent out to the public when a law enforcement officer is killed, seriously injured, or goes missing in the line of duty, and the suspect remains at large and poses a serious, imminent threat to civilians.
“A hero needs your prayers. Today, a Covington County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot and seriously injured during a traffic stop,” Gov. Tate Reeves wrote on social media. “Law enforcement is working to bring those responsible to justice. Make no mistake, they will be brought to justice. Please pray for this deputy and their family, Mississippi!”
Anyone with information on Magee’s whereabouts is urged to call the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation at (855) 642-5378 or by dialing 911.
This is a developing story.
