Severe weather likely in Mississippi into Tuesday evening

Severe weather is possible through noon across the Delta region, according to the National Weather Service. An additional round of severe storms is expected to redevelop this afternoon into early this evening across some parts of Mississippi. Tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and large hail up to golf ball size are all possible with these storms.

Several schools in the Pine Belt District are closing in anticipation of severe weather today. That includes the Jones County School District, West Jasper School District, and Lamar Christian School.

Northern Mississippi–

Morning showers with thunderstorms moving in during the day. Locally heavy rainfall is possible this morning, with highs in the lower 70s.
Tonight will be cooler with showers and thunderstorms continuing, some could be severe. Lows will be in the lower 50s.

Central Mississippi–

Morning showers with thunderstorms moving in this afternoon and remaining through the night, some heavy rainfall is possible with this system, and highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. Lows tonight will be in the mid-50s.

Southern Mississippi–

Showers and thunderstorms are likely through tonight, some could be severe with heavy rainfall. Highs will be in the mid-70s, and lows tonight will be in the lower 60s.
