A man in Simpson County was found dead inside the trunk of a car early Tuesday morning.
According to the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office, officers received a call from a passerby around 6:40 a.m. on Sept. 15 reporting a suspicious vehicle parked on Goshen Road. The caller stated that no one was visible inside or near the car.
Officers with the Magee Police Department responded to investigate, as deputies were occupied with another call. Upon arrival, Magee police officers found the car’s engine still running, but no one was present.
During an inspection of the vehicle, officers spotted what appeared to be blood near the trunk of the car. Reportedly fearing that an individual was trapped inside and required immediate help, the officers opened the trunk and discovered a deceased male.
The man’s name has not been disclosed by the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office at this time.
Shortly after the discovery of the body, Simpson County deputies arrived and notified investigators. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit arrived to process the scene and is currently assisting with the ongoing investigation.
“The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin. The sheriff’s office will release further details as they become available and verified,” the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a release. “Authorities are urging anyone who was traveling in the area of Highway 541 North and Goshen Road around 6:00 a.m. (on Tuesday), or anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity, to contact law enforcement immediately.”
