Simpson County teen recovering after being shot while exiting school bus

Authorities in central Mississippi are investigating after a teenager was shot while exiting a school bus.

Simpson County Sheriff Paul Mullins reports that a 16-year-old male whose identity is being kept under wraps was shot in the back while exiting the bus on Monday around 2:30 p.m.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is said to be recovering from injuries sustained by the gunfire. He is listed in stable condition.

Police say the shooting was not random and they believe it happened to be an ambush situation.

The shooter and the victim are also reported to know one another.
