Single-day total record broken again as 8,204 new cases reported

After a delay on Wednesday, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) is reporting 8,204 new cases of COVID-19 from January 11.

The latest report brings the state’s total number of cases to 616,972. With the confirmation of 26 additional deaths, 10,589 Mississippians have passed away from the virus. There are currently 294 ongoing outbreaks in long-term care facilities.

Tuesday’s 8,204 cases are the highest since the onset of the pandemic, a record that has been broken multiple times over the last two weeks.
