An investigation is underway after skeletal remains were discovered at an abandoned building in Jackson.
The Capitol Police Department said in a press release that officers were called at around 3:43 p.m. on Sunday to assist Jackson firefighters with a scene on Gallatin Street where a small fire had been extinguished.
While surveying the scene, firefighters said they found what appeared to be skeletal remains within the building. Officials did not specify where exactly the small fire had been put out.
“Capitol Police is now actively investigating this death investigation,” a statement from Capitol Police reads. “No further questions will be answered at this time.”
Officials did not say whether or not foul play is suspected. No arrests have been announced in connection with this case at this time.
