Southern Miss alumnus Karen Waldrup is hoping her latest performance on The Voice will be enough for fans to send her to the next round.
Waldrup, originally from Louisiana, has so far wowed coaches and crowds with covers such as Dee Messina’s “Bye Bye”and Trisha Yearwood’s “Georgia Rain,” securing a spot in the Top 12. Vying for the Top 8, she sang “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack during Monday night’s episode of the NBC singing competition.
While Waldrup is coached by Dan + Shay, it might have been country music legend Reba McEntire who was most impressed. The Queen of Country showered Waldrup with compliments, noting that Waldrup has “worked so hard” to get this far in the competition and “did a wonderful job” covering a difficult song.
Now that the fan vote has closed, Waldrup will find out Tuesday night at 8/7c if she advances to the live semifinal. If she doesn’t make the initial Top 8, she will have a chance at an instant save, turning the Top 8 into the Top 9.
