Though college football will kick off in the Magnolia State this weekend, Southern Miss fans can start planning ahead for a road game set to take place two years from now.
Officials with the Southern Miss athletics department announced on Tuesday that the Golden Eagles have agreed to play at West Virginia on September 4, 2027. The matchup will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools in football.

The Mountaineers join Memphis and Tulane as non-conference foes scheduled to play Southern Miss two seasons from now. In the meantime, first-year Golden Eagle head coach Charles Huff is working to prepare his team to begin his debut campaign against Mississippi State on Saturday.
The game between the in-state programs will take place at M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg at 11 a.m. CT, and will be aired on ESPN along with participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations.
