Governor Tate Reeves has announced a special election date to fill the seat of House District 23, following the resignation of Jim Beckett.

Beckett, who was recently appointed by Reeves as executive director for the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff, was first elected in 2004.

If no candidates receive a majority of the vote on January 10, 2023, a runoff election will be held on January 31, 2023. The deadline for candidates to qualify is November 21.
