A police standoff in Starkville early Thursday morning resulted in one arrest and the rescue of a 4-year-old child.
According to the Starkville Police Department, officers responded at 2:22 a.m. to reports of an armed male fighting with a female outside a unit at the Brookville Garden apartments on Everglade Avenue. Upon arrival, the subject fled into a second-floor unit and barricaded himself inside with the child.
Officers then worked to evacuate adjacent apartments and began negotiations with the subject, identified as 33-year-old Tyrez Wade. Wade was reportedly holding the child while speaking with law enforcement.
Two hours later, SWAT members were able to successfully rescue the child and apprehend Wade without significant injury to any party.
Wade, of Hattiesburg, was charged with kidnapping, domestic violence simple assault, and disorderly conduct. He is being held at the Oktibbeha County Jail.
