State treasurer to give out scholarships at MAIS, MHSAA basketball championship games

Future college students will have the opportunity to earn some cash this week with a round of scholarships being made available.

State Treasurer David McCrae announced that the Mississippi Affordable College Savings team will be attending this week’s MAIS and MHSAA basketball championship games with $10,000 worth of scholarships on hand.

MAIS

The MACS group will be raffling off a pair of $500 scholarships to students at Wednesday night’s games hosted at Mississippi College’s A.E Wood Stadium.

These scholarships can be used for elementary or secondary school tuition, laptops, college expenses, and more One scholarship will be given out at the boys’ championship and one at the girls’ championship on Wednesday night.

The girl’s championship game between East Rankin and MRA is scheduled for 6 p.m. The boy’s game between MRA and Jackson Academy will be played at 7:45 p.m.

MHSAA

An MACS crew will be giving away 14 $500 scholarships to teachers and school administrators to help fund classroom supplies, continued education, and more, as well as three $500 scholarships to students.

One Teacher Appreciation Scholarship will be given away at each game from Thursday through Saturday. One student scholarship will be given away each day via a random drawing of individuals who pre-purchased tickets on GoFan.

The schedule for the games in which scholarships will be given can be found below:

Class 1A (Thursday)

Girls — 6 p.m.

Boys — 8 p.m.

Class 2A (Friday)

Girls — 2 p.m.

Boys — 4 p.m.

Class 3A (Friday)

Girls — 10 a.m.

Boys — 12 p.m,

Class 4A (Saturday)

Girls — 10 a.m.

Boys — 12 p.m.

Class 5A (Friday)

Girls — 6 p.m.

Boys — 8 p.m.

Class 6A (Saturday)

Girls — 2 p.m.

Boys — 4 p.m.

Class 7A (Saturday)

Girls — 6 p.m.

Boys — 8 p.m.
