A heavily trafficked bridge connecting two sides of Mississippi’s largest lake is currently shut down for safety reasons.
Engineers with the state have dubbed the Graysport Crossing bridge over Grenada Lake unsafe for travel, as unspecified deficiencies have been detected within the structure. The Mississippi Department of Transportation confirmed to WTVA that the structural issues were discovered as crews were working to build a new bridge next to the existing one.

As things stand, officials are assessing the bridge, which is one of few roads that cross the large lake, to see if it can be repaired. No timetable has been made available for a possible reopening, meaning area residents will have to rely on alternate routes and elongated drives to get to and from respective destinations in the meantime.
