Residents impacted by severe weather that trekked through Mississippi in March have one day left to apply for federal assistance.
Officials with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said the application period for relief through the Federal Emergency Management Agency will close Tuesday at 11:59 p.m.
Individual assistance is available to survivors in Covington, Grenada, Issaquena, Itawamba, Jefferson Davis, Leflore, Marion, Montgomery, Pike, Smith, and Walthall counties. The program allows residents and business owners to receive grants for temporary housing, home repairs, and low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses.
Residents and business owners who sustained losses during the round of storms that included 18 tornadoes across March 14 and March 15 can apply online or by calling 1-800-462-7585. The disaster number is: DR-4874.
As of Monday, FEMA had distributed more than $23 million in individual assistance to 9,359 residents. Affected households have also received more than $14 million in housing assistance.
