A suspect has been identified as an investigation continues into threats of gun violence at the Jackson County Fair, according to law enforcement.
The Pascagoula Police Department confirmed in a social media post Monday that its criminal investigation division identified the suspect but did not disclose their name. The investigation started Thursday when PPD received reports that “ongoing tension” between students at Moss Point, Gautier, and Pascagoula high schools was going to result in gunfire at the annual fair set to open Sunday.

Even with the investigation playing out, the Jackson County Fair still opened and went its opening day without any major crime. Extra law enforcement was on site and will continue to be on site until the fair’s end date of Oct. 26.
“We want our community to have fun and enjoy this even with family and friends; however, it is our responsibility to make the public aware of any possible public safety concerns,” a statement from Chief Scott reads in part. “The Pascagoula Police Department, along with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, will have extra officers working the fair and patrolling the areas surrounding the fairgrounds.”
Scott also encouraged fairgoers to reach out to law enforcement if they notice any suspicious activity.
“While the fair is open and there is a lot of fun to be had, we urge everyone to be cautious of your surroundings and if you see something suspicious, please let officers know,” he continued.
