Suspect wanted after leading Capitol Police on chase, abandoning woman and child

Capitol Police in Jackson are searching for a man accused of abandoning a woman and a small child after fleeing law enforcement.

Officers late Tuesday afternoon attempted to stop a vehicle near Ellis Avenue, but the driver, identified as 30-year-old Jarvis Crump, failed to comply with law enforcement.

Crump is accused of leading police on a pursuit that ended momentarily when officers reportedly lost the suspect, but picked back up when he was spotted once more.

The driver is said to have struck another vehicle, causing a police car to wreck into said vehicle, where County Line Road and Highway 49 intersect in the capital city. Crump then wrecked his own car on McClean Road.

The suspect is accused of taking off on foot following the accident. Police found a two-year-old child and a female passenger in the vehicle driven by Crump. The unidentified female was taken into custody,

No injuries have been reported. No updates have been provided as to who has custody of the child.
