After a suspicious device was located at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula on Thursday morning, law enforcement has deemed there is no threat to the public.
According to a release from the Pascagoula Police Department, officers were dispatched to Ingalls at approximately 11:08 a.m. in response to a device that “looked like a potential safety threat.” Those who responded, along with the ship manufacturer’s security team, evacuated employees, set up a safety perimeter, and began assessing the situation.
Officials determined by 2 p.m. that the device found was not a public safety threat.
“We’re grateful for the quick response time from our shipbuilders and first responders,” Ingalls spokesperson Kimbery Aguillard said as Pascagoula police chief Terry Scott added, “I’m very proud of our first responders and the Ingalls’ security team for working together to ensure the safety of our citizens.”
The scene has been cleared, and Ingalls has resumed all operations. Ingalls is Mississippi’s largest manufacturer, employing over 11,000 people.
