Two people, one being a Tennessee police officer, have been taken into custody for robbing a Bolivar County man.

The Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department reports that an unidentified male called from the Exxon Filling Station in Cleveland saying that he had been assaulted and robbed.

Officers were able to use items stolen from the victim to track and ultimately arrest 48-year-old Michele Washington, a member of the Piperton Police Department, and 36-year-old Tywan Johnson.

The two were taken into custody in Shelby after being stopped by officers with both the Shelby Police Department and Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department.

Both Washington and Johnson are charged with strong-arm robbery. A $50,000 bond was set for each.

Interim Piperton police chief Jonathan Rodney confirmed to WMC that Washington has been relieved of her duties without pay.
