A Terry man has been sentenced to 35 years, including 25 years in prison, after being found guilty of murdering his wife on Christmas Eve in 2024.
According to the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of gunfire inside a home on Doc Henry Cove on Dec. 24, 2024. At the scene, 55-year-old Timothy Tillman’s wife, Dawn Tillman, 65, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head.
Tillman claimed that the gun firing was an accident; however, the jury did not accept that claim and found him guilty of second-degree murder on Sept. 21.
“Assistant District Attorneys Kurt Guthrie and Victoria Anderson presented the evidence that held Timothy Tillman accountable for the death of his wife,” Hinds County District Attorney Brad McCollouch said in a statement. “The jury, in finding Tillman guilty of murder, flatly rejected the assertion this was an accident. We are grateful to the jury for its careful consideration of the evidence and its commitment to justice.”
Tillman was sentenced to 35 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with 10 years suspended and 25 years to serve on Monday.
