The man accused of kidnapping his pregnant ex-girlfriend from the Canton Nissan plant and later killing her will stand trial.
Joshua Andrews appeared in court in Madison County on Monday and was informed that his trial will begin on Feb. 1, 2027.
The trial will be held in an unspecified Mississippi Gulf Coast county, with Judge Dewey Arthur approving Andrews’ legal counsel’s request for a venue change. The defendant’s legal team argued that Andrews could not get a fair trial in Madison County.
In January 2025, Andrews is alleged to have taken Glynis Jackson from the auto plant against her will before traveling north on Interstate 55. Jackson, a mother of three, reportedly jumped out of the vehicle in Holmes County and was fatally struck by another automobile.
The vehicle Andrews was driving had previously been reported stolen by his sister. An autopsy revealed that Jackson was shot in the back and leg before she passed away.
The defendant is charged with capital murder and felon in possession of a firearm. He was also handed a first-degree murder charge linked to the death of Jackson’s unborn child. He was denied bond, meaning he will remain locked up until trial. It is also worth noting that a capital murder charge can yield the death penalty in Mississippi.
