Three Jackson State football players have been named Southwestern Athletic Conference players of the week after big-time performances in the Tigers’ season-opening win over Hampton.
Running back Ahmad Miller was named SWAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week alongside Alabama State quarterback Andrew Body. Miller’s pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter – one from two yards out and the other being a 76-yard breakaway score – broke a 14-14 tie and lifted Jackson State to a 28-14 win. The redshirt sophomore finished the day with 172 yards on 10 carries.
Defensive end Quincy Ivory was named SWAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Tiger D with eight total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. The transfer senior from the University of Florida was also named the conference’s Newcomer of the Week.
Interestingly enough, Ivory – now standing at 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds – formerly played quarterback at Mississippi Valley State (2021) and East Los Angeles Community College (2022) before transitioning to the defensive side of the ball while on the JUCO level. At Florida in 2023 and 2024, he played in 18 games and made one tackle.
Graduate punter Donovan Miller was named SWAC Specialist of the Week. He pinned Hampton inside the 20-yard line four times, including two punts inside the five. He booted the ball seven times for a 41.7 yard average with a long of 62 yards.
Jackson State (1-0) returns to action on Saturday in Hattiesburg against Southern Miss (0-1). Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. with the game being broadcast on ESPN+. The Golden Eagles lost their week-one matchup against Mississippi State 34-17.
