Update: Tropical Storm Sally forms with Mississippi in projected path

Halfway through the 2020 hurricane season, Tropical Storm Sally — the 19th named storm of the season — has formed and appears to be headed toward the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

According to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service, the storm is now expected to strengthen into a Category 2 hurricane ahead of its projected landfall on Tuesday.

Storm surges associated with Sally could reach up to 11 feet, according to the NWS.

Officials are reminding you that now is the time to prepare for severe weather.
