A Tupelo High School football player died in a car crash early Sunday morning.
Alden Wade, 19, was pronounced dead after first responders arrived at the scene in the 4900 block of Cliff Gookin Boulevard at approximately 1:11 a.m. Sunday.
According to the Tupelo Police Department, it was a single-vehicle crash, and Wade’s vehicle is said to have struck a light pole. The crash remains under investigation.
Tupelo High School released the following statement mourning Wade’s death:
Tupelo High School and our football team are heartbroken this morning by the tragic loss of Alden Wade. He came from a wonderful, supportive family, and our hearts are especially heavy for them during this unimaginable time. He was a great young man who always had a smile on his face and had a great future ahead of him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, teammates, classmates, and all who knew and loved him.”
Wade was a senior running back for Tupelo and recorded 56 rushing yards on six carries through seven games this season.
