Two Alabama men have been arrested and charged with auto theft and grand larceny after Madison police received reports of a stolen golf cart.

Officers responded to the Reunion subdivision earlier this week after being notified that a golf cart was missing from a resident’s home.

Shortly after searching the area, the golf cart was found miles away from the home, with law enforcement receiving two other reports of stolen vehicles at nearby residences.

According to Madison PD, the reports state that a 2018 F-150 and 2022 EZ-GO golf cart were missing at two separate homes in Reunion.

Investigators discovered that similar incidents had occurred in the Mississippi Gulf Coast area, prompting Moss Point police to search a hotel parking lot believed to have the missing vehicles. The stolen items were then recovered and brought back to Madison as the investigation continued.

After several weeks of using numerous investigative resources, Madison PD investigators gathered enough evidence to identify two suspects identified as 41-year-old George Nick Zavros of Irvington, Ala., and 46-year-old Lou William Vallas of Mobile, Ala.

Vallas was taken into custody on January 19 and extradited to Madison, where he was booked into the Madison County Detention Center under the charges of auto theft and grand larceny. He is also being accused of stealing $170,000 in merchandise from Ben Nelson Golf & Outdoor in November.

Zavros later agreed to turn himself in on January 25 and was released after posting a $45,000 bond. Additional arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
